Our Mission

Started by Gotoco’s leadership team following the success of a previous Eco Education programme in Guatemala, Green Up Academy & Training (GUAT) is a training organisation that prepares learners for careers in the environmental sector.

We strive to foster curiosity in people, so that they can experience the incredible benefits of immersing themselves in new cultures and embracing challenges outside of their comfort zones.

Environmental Consciousness

We take care with each step we take on our adventures to ensure the impact on our environment is positive and inclusive. It’s not just plants and nature that we interact with, it’s also people, including ourselves. This is why it’s so important to nurture and value the relationship we have with our environment, because we are all a part of it.

Community

Our programmes lend themselves to a unique opportunity to build genuine, meaningful relationships with locals and become a part of a global eco community. We cherish the moments shared with different cultures and believe in their power to grow our perspectives.

We believe that the key to personal and professional growth is to embrace challenges and reflect on them with a positive, solution-focussed mindset. There’s so much space in GUAT to try things out and even more space to grow.

Backpacking

We’re an organisation born out of a backpacker culture, that is excited by the unknown and the new. Travelling light between hostels, homestays and shared accommodation is what we love, not just because of the spontaneity of it but also the communities and cultures that we can experience and learn from, along the way.
